Hello,

Someone suggested I use Bondo to stick the bits of slate back down (see photos). I’m a total beginner and was told that if I just use cement it won’t stick as the surfaces (slate/tile/cement) are smooth. Is this right? Is Bondo the answer?

Thank you!

Bondo, as in the car filler?

Maybe I’m missing some trade secret here, but no, don’t lay them on Bondo.

I’d lay them on a full bed of wet mortar, probably something like 6 parts sharp sand to 1 part cement! However, the mortar will need to stick to a decent base too.

Yes, Bondo the car filler! Sounds odd but I’m guessing it’s stickier than cement so can grip into the smooth surfaces. The problem is how to make a decent base out of the tiles and smooth dry cement. Any ideas?

A morter mix won't do it, you don't have the height and it won't stick unless you use sbr.
Best would be an external tile adhesive.
You could try Bondo if you've got some.
