Dave, did you mean to put a 'not' before the 'stop working'?

The boiler will 'stop working' because of this, in fact it is STILL working but has reached the set temperature and has turned its self off until the water cools in it. This will take longer if there is less circulation through the boiler

I'm not being picky, I just want to make sure I understand. You think that I can turn off the valves in these two rads on the domestic water loop in the very hot weather? And that it will have no adverse effect on the boiler?

If the hot water is working fine then I do not think you need to take the risk of going into the loft to check the f&e tank.

Try the other suggestions at the boiler. You cannot break anything and as you have no heat at present you have nothing to lose, but i still think something has been piped incorrectly and needs re-investigating from what you have descibed.

Sorry I couldn't get your rads working tonight, I realise the imprtance to you for the need for heat and always try to give my more senior customers preference if they have heating problems

One of my personal 'working ethics' is 'to treat my customers as I would expect my elderly mother to be treated'

No I meant it as I wrote it. You can turn off these valves and the boiler will shut down when the set temperature is reached that is set on the bottom left knob on the front of the boiler. This would usually be set to around 60/65C.

I wonder if there is a two port valve that is not opening during CH demand. Could it be an electrical disconnection? Could it be that the HW zone does not have a motorised valve (or a three port valve fitted)?

Reading above seems to suggest an air lock, rads turned off or controls (if fitted) not wired

At last I have a reply to all the kind people who tried to help with this boiler problem. When I was out, the builders asked their Corgi man to have a look at the boiler etc and they tell me he said the roomstat wasn't working and that I needed to replace it. He disconnected the room stat and I have heat, and need to control it with the individual radiator stats. And I can also advance the programme on control near the boiler so that next non-firing programme is on.
I'm not great on coincidences, and since the builder had been draining down etc. it seems odd that the roomstat should fail on exactly the same day. However, I have ordered a simple room stat, 24 hour programmable, from Honeywell (CM 901) and I shall be very interested to see if it solves the problems.

Thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated.

I would like to speak on behalf of old roomstats!

When we get too old to do a proper job we can give up the ghost at any time.

If that happens to coincide with some other activity that you have asked for then we take the view that its YOU who is to blame because YOU scheduled other work on that date.

You should have realised that your stat was old and replaced it when it was still working and below retirement age.

Stat.

Hi, old roomstat! Mine was only 15, so just a teenager. It was working fine the day before. How often do you replace yours?

Modern boilers are expected to live for about 10-12 years.

A domestic roomstat has a similar life and should be replaced at the same time as the boiler so that they can be expected to have a harmonious life together and a similar life expectancy.

I once went to the wedding of a man with a PhD in his fifties to a pretty young girl of 23. Within a year I went to his funeral!
