My Vaillant CVW 221 H Central heating overheat thermostat/ temprature regulator packed in,So I got a replacement but it has a smaller thread and it won't fit .The part number ( 101462 )on the sealed packet is, which according to replacement parts web sites is correct, but on my boiler the threaded hole is bigger .Question does anybody know if there are two different sizes or has had a similer problem.

Is it the one screwed in the main heat exchanger or the one screwed to the flow pipe at the bottom near the isolation valve?

If it's the one on the flow pipe and u have a vcw221 the one with a pilot the Vaillant part is 251851 if it's fan flue it's 251822

HI Bunnyman thanks for the fast reply

It is the one screwed into to the flow pipe at the bottom near the isolation valve?.As I said when I search online I get a different part number.first thing tomorrow morning will be taking the one I bought back.
Thanks again

Just had look online for that part number you gave me.It looks like the part I need So thanks again Bunnyman your spot on....

Just a thought, is a safety switch and a overheat thermostat the same thing?
Bcause Vaillant call the part I need a CH Overheat Thermostat.

Bunnyman is spot on as usual. Amongst engineers it was called the safety switch, but yes central heating overheat is the correct term. Either way go by the part number and you won't go far wrong (251851).

How do you know you need it? They are quite a reliable part. A faulty one will cause the pilot to not stay alight. If thats your problem there are many other things that can cause this, and you are then into the realms of needing a Gas Safe engineer to diagnose, as that area is outside of a DIYer I'm afraid.

Hi the831Bunny
When I fitted a new thermocouple and was fitting the wires back onto the safety switch, the switch fell apart.

Have just had a closer look at the broken safety switch and there are numbers all round the plastic side and one of the numbers is 251850 which is very like the number ( 251851 ) that was suggested by you.Had a look on line and couldn't find a part number 251850. So what do you think?

So you didn't bother searching for 251851? (which is the correct part no.) Plenty online...
