Hi I have a very old boiler a vaillant vcw 20 with a hot water problem. When I turn on the hot tap the boiler fires up but no hot water and the rads get hot. I want to get the boiler through one more winter can anyone help.

Nope that means the diverter is stuck half way, usually caused by wax stat failure, both no longer available sadly 
As it dates back to the late 70's to early 80's, it"s gone through enough winters. However the real reason to change it is because it"s open flue
