Hi - we've just returned home to find the pump has failed (completely) on our aging Vaillant VCW boiler. The bolier must be going on 20 years old - sort of a 'Trigger's Broom' affair (Only Fools & Horses) . i.e. it's the same boiler but most parts have been replaced at least once!
The pump is a VP 5-SEZ (a Vaillant badged Grunfos model). I'm wondering if it's worth replacing it or should I, finally, admit that it's time to replace the whole boiler? For the past 5 years I've been saying 'we'll just get it through another winter' but, in the past, I've been advised to try to keep it running.....

Cheers

Have you tried the reset button on the right hand side of the boiler control box. Also if pilot had gone out although relit there is a little switch behind these that doesn`t always make on relighting.. Push red button in forcefully a couple of times an this usually gets it. Then relight pilot......Both these will stop pump coming on.... If pump is boll#xed they are very expensive an slight pain to change if its still the original. If its been changed in recent years you may get away with just the head... Boiler now getting on for twenty five year old so may be time to change what was the Rolls Royce of combi`s
