Hi all,

I'm currently having a problem with my ~8 year old boiler... Now that i have started turning the CH back on, sometimes i find in the morning that i cannot get any hot water from the taps.

When turning on the tap, the boiler fires, the temp reads ~70deg but the water is stone cold. The radiators are red hot, but the water is cold which suggests the diverter valve is not working.

In most instances, if i turn the boiler off & on, the hot water starts to work fine. The temp reading suddenly plummets but then rises as the boiler fires and the hot water works as usual.

It the diverter valve were at fault, would restarting the boiler correct this (even if temporarily)?

I also have an issue that when the CH is on, if i use the shower i sometimes find the temperature going hot and cold in ~30 second intervals (goes cold for about 10 seconds). This doesn't seem to occur if the CH is not on.

I recently had a service and the boiler passed with flying colours. Whilst i described this fault (which has happened before infrequently) it didn't present itself whilst the plumber was here even though we tried a few things.. it all worked fine.... The issue does seem to be linked to the use of the CH (which hadn't been on before the plumber came round for the service) which is usually on, or had recently been on when the problem occurs.

Has anyone any thoughts on these issues?

Thanks

It can be other things but is usually the diverter valve. Most have already been changed.

The old type had holes about 4.2 mm around the body. The later better one had larger holes at about 5.8 mm.
