What do I have to do to prepare interior oak waxed doors before varnishing?

You catagorically cant varnish over wax, there is no way around it.

If your dead set on varnish you would have to remove the wax first either by sanding the doors back to bare wood and re finishing or some sort of wax remover stripper of which i have never used but dont think are great.
If your door is pretty plain just sand it down and start again but if has lots of decorative moulding etc then maybe try and get a stripping product recommended.

I know to anyone who knows about wood this is not the way to go but I just don't like the finish. Varnish is more practical as I have big smelly Bulmastiff who spreads dirt and saliva at an alarming rate.
Thanks for the replies.
