So the problem ..
I have a large (1.8m tall ) 2-row 16 cylinder vertical radiator (ie, 8 front and 8 back) in the kitchen - it is the 1st rad on the system and and uses 15mm pipe into the rad from the 22mm from the vboiler lines. The inlet has a lockshield valve and the outlet a Drayton TRV. Its been installed for about 5 years no problems. Both values work fine - I've checked them both by disconnecting from rad etc.
I had to recently bleed the system to re-gass the expansion vessel in the Worcester 24 boiler - all went well.
But the problem now is 3 of the cylinders will not heat up at all - all cold to touch from bottom to top. The one that will not heat up are all within the first three rows of the inlet (ie before the constriction between rows 3 and 4 which forces the hot water upwards into the cylinders and then around the top and down the other cylinders. It odd as the ones that are blocked are no evenly spread so - its like this
in row 1 front one cold and rear one hot
in row 2 both cold front and back
in row 3 both OK from and back
all other rows front and back are fine
I have bled the radiator twice and tried opening the valve on one side v slightly and then the other in rotation to fill the rad evenly as per other treads anticipating this is an airlock. This has led to no improvement.
I have blown through both sides of the inlet and outlet valve - nothing immediately odd - air passes.
Tried bleeding from left had top bleed nipple and right hand fixings - no effect
I have turned off all other radiator in the system and tried to move the blockage / airlock by upping the flow - but no change.
Which leads me to the only option left which is there must be a blockage in the bottom of the affected cold cylinders - would you agree ?
If so how best do I shift the blockage (remove the rad, lie on side, get hose pipe out and give it some stick ??
