Hello! I have bought a beautiful vintage 'Centurion' cooker made by Main and dating from 1950 I'm told. It is currently set up to run off mains gas, but I need to convert it to LPG. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find the appropriate jets? (I have got a qualified person to do the work; he just hasn't got the time or inclination to source the bits!)

Any clues, no matter how tenuous, would be much appreciated.

Many many thanks,
Angie

P.S. The kitchen has already been designed and built around this piece of equipment so buying another cooker is not an option! (I have had many suggestions along those lines already!)

Why go from mains to bottle gas? Unless you get your LPG on the cheap?

Main Centurian was a very good cooker. One of the first to be built with steel panels rather than cast iron. I sold quite a lot of them. I still have a couple of spare tap handles for it.
But great care is needed. It will not have the flame failure device that is now standard on all gas cookers.
It should also be possible to buy a modern replacement cooker of similar dimensions.

Wow! Great to hear from someone who actually knows the cooker! You don't by any chance have a spare handle for the oven, do you?

I've been so busy with other projects I've had to put this one on the back burner (sorry!) temporarily but all of your posts have been really helpful and I thank you heartily for your leads and advice! Will let you know the outcome. :D

Not sure about the tap handle, will have a look though. Sorry not been on this site for a while because of being in hospital.
This series of cookers was originally developed, because the sheet steel construction would be easier to get up to some of the high rise flats that were being constructed in London, post war. Maybe quite a few of the cookers are around there still.

Do you mean the handle that opens the oven door, or the thermostat knob. I may have the latter.

It's the big handle that opens the oven door that I'm after. Ours is broken. Not to worry, that's something I can easily make myself.

Sorry to hear you've been in hospital. Hope all is well!
