After the recent high winds we had to get our tv aerial bracket replaced. I've never really looked at the gable end in much detail (!) but noticed that several of the battens are visible. The house is 9yrs old this summer and one of our neighbours houses is the same, but the others look ok. I am concerned that damp will get in amd cause problem further down the line.

Any thoughts or advice? I was thinking re pointing may be necessary.

I've attached a couple of photos, they are sideways but you get the idea...

Many thanks View media item 74035

The problems due to when the verge was ran the battens were n't cut back far enough for the overhang. Re-pointing it would result in the same problem re-occuring further down the line. The fix is to strip the verge and have the battens cut back by an inch or so. Realisticly it shouldn't cost any more than £350 to £400 or if your able the hire of ladders and about 20 quid materials.

thanks Colin. do you think this needs doing or would it be ok to be left as it is? I definitely wont be working that high on ladders so will be a job for a roofer!
