Vokera 28 combi boiler

Hi Guys.
I am new here so I hope that I am in the right place to post this request for help. I have a Vokera 28 combi boiler and for some reason we are not able to refill the boiler with water as we used to be able to.
The boiler is connected to the mains water supply so I know that the water is getting as far as the boiler but after that nothing.....!
On the boiler is a 'fill lever' (I guess that this is a non-return valve). In the past, when we have turned this to fill, we could hear the water passing through into the boiler but now - nothing. The pressure in the boiler is now very low so we have to fill it but can't.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly a stuck non return valve in the brass fitting, (this is the one in the left hand fitting where the flex connects to).
Once had one like this, fitted a new one, it would then allow water to pass once into the system, but the back pressure would lock the valve solid, finally fitted a external filling loop problem solved.

I have previously managed to clean the parts which block.

If they have blocked then the system is probably very dirty and further work will be required to clean it.

The non return which I fitted was a brand new one which only worked the once, took it back to merchants for another new one, (we could not find a fault with the first one) fitted 2nd one just the same, so external loop fitted no further problems since, so now I just fit external loop straight away!

Thank you so much for the helpful replies. Blimey, you people are quick.

Just another 'quickie' please. If I wanted to take the non-return valve off to change it, is this something that a layman (me) could do easily. Is it just a question of a spanner to undo the nuts on the valve and then, when putting back, using PTFE tape around the thread under the nuts?
Luckily there is a tap fitted inline on the boiler just before the valve so if I turn that off first, would I be good to go??

You have to drain the system water out of the boiler.

Would you think I was really stupid if I asked you how to drain the boiler.
Do I just hold a cup (or bucket, as I am not sure how much water would be retained in the boiler) under the inlet pipe as I take of the valve??

Expect up to 6 litres at a good pressure doing it like that then!
