Wanting to harvest grey water . . . . . . . . . .

Hello, I am looking for a solution to harvest grey water from shower and washing machine during the hottest weeks of the year when water butts are empty.

We live in a bungalow and would like to be able to tap in to our waste pipes for the shower and washing machine allowing us to use this grey water on parts of the garden. It would mean manually diverting water in to a bucket from the 40mm waste pipe.

Don't forget that washing machine detergent contains ingredients that may not be the best to put on your plants. A lot of soaps contain salts and some detergents contain bleaching agents.

That being said, a pipe that's low down like that may not to be able to catch much in the way of volume, where does the waste pipe run in to?

As Madrab says, soapy water won't do your plants any good at all. If you do wish to proceed, you'll need a break tank and pump setup to pump it up into a holding tank.

Much better to just increase the capacity of your water butts
