Can someone tell me why after a few hours of not being used, my front loading washing machine has a couple of inches of water in the bottom?

yes, the inlet valve has jammed open slightly, needs a new one

Thank you so much Breezer. I was hoping it was something I could do myself (a hose issue, etc) but obviously not. At least I can sound slightly knowledgeable when the repair guy shows up....
