Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I stop water pooling here in this corner. I’ve a funny feeling the guys that did the garden have cut some corners. It seems to be filtering down from the top level and just sitting on the clay like mud underneath.

If it were me, i would dig some type of soakaway in the area. Not an easy task but that would help a lot....

Is it clay soil?

I think it is, yes. It's your typical new build estate ground. Before having the garden done, it was one big water logged piece of grass where your feet sunk in certain parts. We had around 48 tonne of soil and crap removed before starting the garden.

It's a simple fact of life that clay doesn't play nice when it comes to water. You may have to accept the situation.

Could i not create a soakaway/french drain that runs along the back and then slopes downtowards the bottom of the garden?

Yes, you could, but the water would still need somewhere, effective, to drain away to. Clay is very effective, at retaining water, it was used to good effect, to line the canals.

So would the above video work if i was to dig far enough down, hopefully removing some clay and hitting something different?

Certainly, if you can find something different to clay, but clay tends to have a very thick layer. Rather than dig, try a narrow auger, to see what's below.

Seems like a cheap option to try, would it be best running this across the area or simply installing it in the area where the water first trickles down?
I'm presuming it all depends how high the water table is in the area, you may find there's no where for the water to run away to.
