Made a bar table from a solid oak worktop, I've been oiling the worktop but still drys out in 1-2 weeks and some areas of the surface gets slightly rust as well. The dining table I bought is wax finished and my wife loves it, it's smooth and water resistant as well.

I'm also buying another worktop for a desk and would love to finish it with wax. So what would be the right procedures for wax finish a worktop? I can buy the worktop un-oiled or oiled, which would be better for wax finish?

Also for my bar table can i still give it a wax finish after it's been oiled a few time?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Wax will work over oil, always Danish oil my furniture before waxing.
