We cut 70% of our Gas Storage Capacity in 2018 - Tories gonna Tory

Isnt most "reserve" for electricity generation held in the form of pumped storage hydro?
Depends what you mean.

That's the conventional criteria, Dinorwig pumped hydro can store around 9GWh of electricity, which is a lot, almost a third of a day's power for the UK.

We used to have 14 days worth of Gas storage. If that's now down to 30% of that it's still 4.2 days of electrical and heating power that's saved up. Our Gas plants run at around 40-45% load. That gives a lot of room to run them more of the time.

The UK's strategy is to switch to renewables and we've been doing rather well at converting our reliance to wind and solar.

Without a transition plan. Working out just fine now we are subject to short term price hikes. A large buffer provides ability to smooth out price fluctations.

I see Ireland has been deleted from Notch's list as well.

It's a fact that many countries have many many times our gas storage facilities. Comparison on a bar chart is pretty spectacular.

Some of our storage needed something done about it and it looks like it didn't match others anyway. Nothing was done. Scrapped off instead.

So price hikes have to hit us sooner than many others.

;) Don't worry some blame it on the Russians. What an intended gas pipe from there to Germany has to do with it pass other than Trump said don't, have it sent from us via ships instead.

TBH I wonder how much north sea gas has been burnt making electricity. Cheap skate option using a limited resource. Goes back to Mrs T but I have never been able to get precise details. She also wouldn't have us build a nuclear reactor to retain the skills needed. The lady said no. So need to find some one else to do it and that will cost.

The UK is quite relaxed about gas supplies, only a 3% dependence on Russia, compared to the EU's 40%. We've secured that shortfall and much more from Qatar, the EU tried to secure a deal with Qatar but the terms were so onerous they were told to **** off. The EU then tried to buy gas from Iran but the Chinese beat them to it. Doh! The Germans are going to be freezing their nuts off this winter.

Brexit Britain.(y)

So how come gas price rises have been far higher in UK?

oh that’s right….Brexit Britain

Are they? what's the latest spot prices for UK & Europe?

Regardless, our heating and lights won't be going off over the winter, they will in Europe.

Let's hope no-one's lights and heating goes off during this winter or any winter.
Cold is a killer.
