What are strappers?

Hi all, could someone explain what strappers are? if possible send me a picture and what they are used for? I'm currently studying some electrical installation manuals, and it often refers to "strappers", but havent a clue what it means! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
 
they are two conductors that interconnect between two 2 way or two way and intermediate switches
