Hiya all, bit of a girlie question.

what are the controllers called for switching the heating on and off, the ones in the airing cupboard?

I have a roomstat that i dont use, but instead i switch the heating on but pushing the buttons on a controller near the hot water cylinder.

sorry for the thick question, but need to replace them and cant find them online (coz i keep getting room thermostats)

thanks :)

It's called a timer (simple ones) or a programmer (more complicated).

Why don't you use your thermostat?

What you probably need is a programmable thermostat. This allows you to have different temperatures at different times of the day (and on different days of the week if it's a seven day version), so you can set it to meet your lifestyle requirements.

No idea about what's in your airing cupboard, but do you mean the programmer, and is it one of these?
Google

thanks for your replies guys, i dont think room thermostat works, but now getting a new boiler and the replacement of thermostat and controls wasnt on the quote, i suppose i could get the gasmen to put a new one in.

whats the difference between room thermostat and these controls that are in the airing cupboard? do i really need them both?

yeah, digital programmable thermostats is what i want, i assume they will replace room thermostat but what about those things in the airing cupboard? oh i am so stupid, the house i used to live in before had a combi boiler so there was absolutely nothing in the airing cubboard (they also removed the hot water cylinder) and just a programmable stat on the landing. Now i am getting just a regular boiler so wondering what i should keep and what i can get rid of

second poster, your google URL gives a link to mixer showers lol

A thermostat controls the temperature in the house. What the other controls do is a guess as we can't see them. If you can post a pic that would help a lot.

If you are getting a regular boiler you will need, in addition to the programmer and roomstat:

Pump (might be built into the boiler)

One or two motorized valves

Cylinder thermostat

and a junction box into which everything is connected.

yep, i have all these, i will take a pic and post tonight

thanks guys, really appreciate your comments
