What do you think?

He also said in one of the guides to wiring sockets that you can spur off a spur if both are single sockets...

Would seem to me he doesn't know much about electrics.

He also still does his calculations with 240 volts, not 230... I think his source of advice was somewhat outdated.

agreed

two singles on a spur is no less safe than one double and was allowed at one point

the problem was that people were changeing the singles for doubles later

Plugwash, the maximum current of both single and double sockets is 13 amps I don't think it makes much difference therefore.

Besides, you can still overload the cable, as 2.5mm cable is only rated at 24 amps. I think it relied upon the chances being that no more than 24 amps would be placed on the two spur sockets combined.

yes just as the standards for sockets assume a double socket wont be loaded at more than 13A at a time
