Hello All, I have a 15 year old house built of reconstituted cotswold brick which has a garden wall attched to it of the same material. The original builder has filled the gap with a buff coloured material that is plyable to touch and has a rubberised feel to it, but it needs replacing. The problem I have is that three bulders merchants and two builders don't seem to know where I can get this filler from and can only come up with general builders mastic, which doesn't work. Any ideas would be very gratefully received. Thank you

Polysulphide mastic should do the trick. but you'll have to scrape the old stuff out first.

What do you mean 'general builders mastic which doesn't work' How is it not working?

Thanks for your reply - That'll do it! :)

The general builders mastic suggested to me I think is mainly for door and window frames. It doesn't work due to the gap being upto 3cm in some parts and the mastic it's just not workable in such concentrated volumes.

Many Thanks Again.

I have had good results by using an expanding foam to fill the cavity, and then a flexible seal on top

If you have not used expanding foam before, it is very sticky and expands a lot, so cover all exposed surfaces including the ground (and your skin, hair, clothes shoes and eyes) for a metre around. You will be surprised at the mess until you get the hang of it.

It was probably brickfill expansion filler foam, which is sold in a roll. You could use mortar and bit of old roof tile slid into the crack. Finish of with mortar pointing or mastic once theres something there for is to be applied to.

Or just use expanding foam and mortar over it. .
