Hi,

Can anyone tell me what this is?
View media item 41124It's in the Central Heating return pipe. My guess, it's a pressure relief valve. I keep losing pressure and the drip is a clue to the culprit but I can't find anything like it on-line.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Pressure relief valve, spring loaded. It unscrews from the tee. Fit a modern PRV.

If it's an open vented system, ISTR there's no legal need for it, but I'd fit a PRV to sfeguard against the OV and cold feed freezing.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Having looked on the BES website, it says the pressure is adjusted by turning the external nut. So how do I know what pressure it's set to?
The system is a sealed system hooked to a Worcester Combi (24CDi) which has a PRV built in. Does that suggest I don't need this Spring Safety Valve?

hi
yes its an old style safety valve which would have been fitted to your old system, you need to plug it off now (1/2"bsp plug) as its not needed any more its not made to take the pressure of your new sealed system thats why its started leaking.

Thanks all,
Fingers crossed the PRV in the boiler is ready to start doing it's job once I cap off this old spring valve :)
