What material to backfill post hole

What ratio of ballast, sand, water and cement?
Assuming you have these to hand already? Otherwise just use whatever you have.

If I'd already chucked a couple of bags of postmix in then I would imagine the posts would be secure enough to just backfill the top with rubble, then soil to cover.

It's solid as a rock with the 2x bags of postcrete..

I have everything to hand. So will mix with ballast and make the concrete. Pour on top and hopefully that's the end of that.
 
Can't go wrong with postcrete. I bodged up a small border support using the ends of two GKN pallets with an inch thick piece of waste wood, filled in the middle and just poured water. Cement skim over the top. Sorted. Marvellous stuff. :mrgreen:
