40mm hole saw to get the connection thru without a struggle .

Bigger than the nut on the end

In some cases there is an anti-flood device that is even bigger. How big is yours?

A hole cutter will be much better than a spade bit.

You can feed hose from either end so anti-flood device does not need to pass thru the hole.
