Hi - I (the missus) bought a sink and vanity unit where we need to drill the hole for the sink basin waste in the vanity unit. The basin waste seems to measure 40mm but I think the thread is very slight larger diameter. I have drilled a 40mm hole in a piece of ply and I cannot fit the waste through - I might be able to if i forced it but I don't want to destroy the thread. Do I just move up to a 44mm hole saw?

Yes, it's normal for pipe holes to be an "easy fit"

Reduces the risk of squeaking or rubbing as they move or expand with heat.

seal the cut with silicone or something as its more than likely chip or mdf type board and you wont want that sucking up any water or moisture in the room

Thanks - it looks like a solid piece of wood but I’ll do this anyway
