What is the best to bed a shower tray on , the floor is chipboard so should i use mastic or cement ?????

What does the manufacturer say, Most want Cement or no warranttee.

Seal the board first with a pva sealant.

It is an existing shower tray so we have no instructions , it is on blocks of wood at the moment and we are putting it on the floor boards .

A weak cement mix is best, otherwise I have used Silicon in the past without any problems (that I know of)

Cement is what the manufacturers like, silly sealer is what we like. If you want a good job use silly sealer.

You have not told us the most important feature, what the shower base is made of!

The type largely determines what you should be using. Its quite possible that you may need to put something more stable than chipboard if its a thin ceramic tray.

Good point, there's even plasticy ones in local housing estate here which would be more at home in a caravan. They tear up lovely when the man of the house gets his bear belly.

I like the Mira Flight.

I don't think I'd refit a second hand tray not even at home.

They are such a cause of problems I wouldn't chance it.

Its a quality made resin one possibly heritage because thats what the rest of the suite is

Well  If you want a really proper job like I did @ my last house  Rip up the board under and create a lower floor with waterproof 20mm ply.nogged to the joists and then fill the void with sand/cement....so you end up with 25mm. sand/cement bed BUT the tray lays flush with the floor ..see I knows, but it takes ages to type and you might just silicone it anyway

I will definatly be replacing the floor with marine ply and I might just lower the floor as suggested .
