Wonder if anyone can give me some advice here?
Being a complete idiot I've recently painted a newly plastered ceiling - it's dry - with thin coat of emulsion. Didn't realize it needed to be thinned down first (yes of course I realize now I should have read the very small text on the tub first!).

Any suggestions on what I should do now? I've read on the forum that the paint will just peel/fall off if it isn't stripped back to plaster now. Do I have to sand it all back? What's the best approach.

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

It doesn't always cause problems, particularly if it was a wishy washy cheap emulsion. The odds are that you'll be fine.

The problems normally arise when the next coat is applied and the moisture in the paint softens the previous coat (or coats).

The paint may start to blister and actually rip away from the plaster as you roll.

Your options are

1. Apply by brush or roll very lightly

2. Mist spray the paint and scrape it off (or use a steam stripper).

3. Sand the paint off

4. Coat the wall with a non waterbased paint, eg Zinsser BIN or oilbased UC.
