What was the hype about the eclipse and solar panels?

Comparing 11th

and the 12th,

from a 6 kW array, OK it was down, but since down to 362 watt anyway by that time of day, can't see it really having an effect on national grid?

It does point out why we need batteries to bridge the gaps, and the solar eclipse was nationwide at around the same time, where cloud cover varies town to town.

My wife forwarded an email from Octopus about reducing usage at the time, but since our usage is normally zero at that time of day, can't see how we could have reduced it?

Considering the grid Hz went out of spec in June I guess they were worried this would tip the balance at dinner time

Solar generation last night was 0.14GW at 7pm, tonight it's back up to nearly 2.5GW, showing the eclipse did actually have a significant effect.

At 7pm today 556 watts, 12th 200 watt, 11the 584 watt, 10th 643 watts, 9th 665 watts, 8th 468 watts, the 4th however was 284 watts, 3rd 282 watts, so the output that late at night does jump up/down I can only go back 3 months, and this year solar output has been very high.

1st of 5 whole day was only 7.9 kWh yesterday it was 29.4 kWh that's the whole problem with solar, it goes up/down like a yo-yo.

They have known it was coming for many many years and should have planned for it……

They have 50 years to plan for the next one - maybe they should build more nuclear, if they start now it may be on-line for the next one!
