Good morning all

I have used several deck stains over the years however they all seem to last a few weeks! The current selection re all water based and even the weather forecast of rain makes them come off! I have used Ronseal deck stain for the last two years and probably lasted only five months! That's three coats applied too. The stuff my grandad used back in the day would last 15 years and couldn't get the stuff off your hands!! Do they do any oil based quality trade stuff nowadays?

Many thanks

Dan

Decking stains are generally water based, like Ronseal etc, get a winter on it and it will come off. You need a decking Oil, this will penetrate the wood and give it a colour that you want but will not come off. Decking Oil will be a bit dearer but its worth it in the long run.
