This is my loft with the four water tanks. Yes four??

Any ideas what is going on?

What is the small tank for? Could it be an overflow tank ???

Does it matter that it doesn't have a lid. It looks pretty filty (and there are birds nesting in the loft) and I'm concerned that it is not covered.

The small tank is for the central heating and the water often has that appearance. It should obviously have a lid and jacket.

Are you sure the other two tanks are not connected together to increase capacity?

The other posibilty is you are in a flat and one tank feeds another flat.


Again all pipes should be insulated includin the vent pipe.

This set up is in a house. So no other property to feed.

But the pipe from Tank B (Pic 3) does enter the bottom left of Pic 5 then goes to Tank A.

It sounds as though the two tanks (cisterns) are connected together to increase storage capacity.

I suggest you have a good look in the tanks, you may find one will contain stagnant water since very few are plumbed in correctly.

Water draw off should be from both tanks to avoid this problem. Ensure both tanks have float valves and feed pipes of equal lenght which then combine. This will ensure simultaneous draw-off.
