Where is the boiler?

I bought a house through auction and trying to switch on the radiators and hot water but don't know how because I can't find the boiler!
I have found the tank to hold hot water but not found a boiler, the only thing I found is an external gas heater in the kitchen and I am thinking could it also heat the radiators and the water?
attached is a picture to that unit, any advise would be appreciated.

It looks as if you have a back boiler behind that fire front.

But if you have bought a house with no history available then the first think you should do before turning on the gas is to get it safety checked and ideally serviced at the same time.

Those back boilers can be quite dangerous!

Gloworm 45/? Fire and back boiler. Bomb proof. Get it serviced and enjoy a few years trouble free use. Perfectly safe if looked after, and don't block the vent to outside
Pics of the cylinder and the other appliance you mention would help. That boiler is quite capable of both CH and HW.

I just cannot understand why people MUST have a combi

OP, read this slowly

Your boiler will be less trouble than almost any modern boiler

It will most likely cost you less when you total up any fuel used and repair bill for you boiler or a singing dancing combi boiler

You will be lucky to find someone who can repair your super efficient combi boiler but not a problem for what you have just

If you want to save money, instal better controls on what you have

Now, do you really want a new boiler? If you going to get the boiler serviced, the fire will need removing and boiler cleaned with brushes etc. if someone can service your boiler without dismantling it, then look out the window- your engineer's horse will be feasting on your garden blooms

the property will be to let so less breakdown and safe boiler is the option.
I have been advised that back boilers waste average 60p per pound and combi boilers 10p per pound!!

No brainer

Combi breaks down, even people who are saving your world may not be able to fix your boiler same day.

BB breaks down, put the immersion heater on and the gas fire- sooooo, you are warm in one room and still have hot water while the parts come in a van that is going round your world.

Don't let me sway you- get a combi boiler.

Where is your advice coming from? A combi boiler may be 95% efficient, but NOT ALL the time. A combi, regardless of which one it is, will not last half the years the present one has been giving good service for. The system you have is a belt and braces job. Combi is a compromise all in one package that is a good earner for me so I wonder why I am trying to put you off what your intentions are

Back boilers might be 40 not 60, as said earlier, better controls will help

Thanks DP, That advise from a local plumber after asking if he can service the Back-boiler.
Will keep the Backboiler, just need to find someone around sheffield area to service it.
