Where's the front?

Hi all,
I'm wondering what legally constitutes the front of my house. We're semi detached and 90 degrees from the road with access across our neighbours drive. We don't directly adjoin the road at all. We'd like to have a conservatory on the 'front' as it is south facing, would this need planning? It overlooks a field.

If you think it's the 'front' then it probably is the 'front' and you need planning permission.

So you need to start thinking it as the 'back' and continue that line. Is putting it on the new 'back' going to be an eyesore for everybody else? If so then you shouldn't do it.
