I have a flavel vesta gas fire and an open chimney pot that lets in hail, rain and soot etc and is very noisy when its windy I want to get a cowl to stop this but no plumbers or builders merchants want to commit to telling me which one I need.

I was originally told by my plumber who fitted the fire that a terracotta pot with slits would do but then told by a roofer that I was going to get fit it that building regs have changed

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance

What about the millions of other chimneys that are ok without one? Nonsense.

My question exactly but no one will get up there and put one on. "Cant do that building regs mate"

I saw a slotted one at a reclamation yard for £15 but couldn't buy it cos no one will fit it

A Colt Top is what you need with the bird cage in it. won't let rain or hail in and what ever way the wind blows promate draw up the chimney.
