Which geotextile should I use for a french drain in clay soil?

I created some french drain a while back - I dug a trench, bedded with 20mm stone, layed geotextile in it, added perforated drain pipe, covered with more stone and wrapped with the geotextile. The geotextile does a very good job of preventing water getting to the drain! Actually, I have very clay rich soil and there is also not much "fall" to play with. What geotextile should I be using? I've attached a photo of the geotextle I am using.. the water just sits there! Having said that, if I hold a hosepipe close to it water does pass through. It seems gravity alone is not enough to really do it.

Different geotextiles have different water permeability rates.
Woven fabrics generally have lower permeability rates.
Some are designed for weed control, others for ground stability, and some for drainage.

Research the textile before buying.
