Whirlpool ADP 4404/5 - lower arm detaches during cycle

I have a problem with my whirlpool dishwasher. The lower arm which rotates and circulates the water detaches and has to be placed back on its spindle about 2-3 times a wash.

Any ideas on what is causing the problem / how it can be fixed?
