We have a problem with our Whirlpool dishwasher. At the start of the cycle water comes into the compartment but after a short period it stops and the start button starts flashing 6 times. When I open the door there is about 4-5 cm of water at the bottom of the machine.

I press the start button for two seconds and the cycle jumps to END and pumps out the water at the bottom.

Is there a different pump which is blocked which should pump the water to the rotating jets?

I would appreciate if somebody could give me some idea where to start looking.

Thanks in advance

6 flashes is a problem with water intake, normally changes to 7 flashes.
Question has already been answered several times and should be found using the search facility.
Basically, normal fault is a bad connection at the flowmeter.
