why is loss of freedom of movement in eu seen as a big deal

Where is that data supporting your claim that half of UK pensioners can qualify to retire to Greece?
As I recall it was an unsupported claim of yours.
I provided the source, you ignored it. 4M people have pots over 220k
But this is the median pot worth for those holding a private pension pot.
If the data includes those not holding any private pension pot:
Not much point is including 18 year olds in the data.
As I said, and keep saying the criteria for retiring to an EU country for UK pensioers is not easily met
4M retirees can easily meet it with their pension assets alone. Once you factor other assets, it will be a much bigger pool
This article suggests the real number is 70-80%

Pre Brexit there were no such criteria for pensioners to meet to retire to the sun, and reduce their outgoings on such things as energy bills, food, etc.
FoM in its current form was barely 10 years old when the Brexit vote occurred.

According to your carefully worded query, for only those holding a pension pot.
Not much point is including 18 year olds in the data.
Moving abroad isn't limited to pensioners. Probably far more young people want that opportunity than pensioners.

I suspect your are familiar with how the average can be skewed by the extremes.

FoM in its current form was barely 10 years old when the Brexit vote occurred.
14 years I believe. And in that 14 years
To the South of Spain alone.
Then there was the Balearic and Canary Isles, Portugal, France, Italy, etc.

Now reduced to a mere 40,000 due to not meeting the criteria.

Highlighting a temporary potential lower criteria for Greece, (not particularly attractive to UK pensioners) in no way excuses the tremendous loss of opportunity to UK citizens.

Two? Or three? Names please.
Ellal, R&C, MBK, of those expressed a particular interest.
Now can you name 50 of the (assumed) 100 regular posters on here.
Then we can arrive at a more exact presumption of the percentage involved?

About 20-30% can't make it work and those 20-30% will find retirement a struggle everywhere.

Ellal previously claimed a 1M pension pot - box ticked
I easily tick the box.
If the choice is one, it doesn't meet the definition of an "option" (y)
Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Spain, Portugal arę all offering tax incentives for UK retirees. Even France is happy with minimum wage + medical insurance.

The 3% was based on those stating an interest or an intention, not on those meeting the criteria.

Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Spain, Portugal arę all offering tax incentives for UK retirees.
But not easily met by the majority of those interested.
And it still entails an application, and process, to be approved.
This was not necessary pre Brexit.

I’ve "expressed a particular interest" in climbing Everest, going to the North Pole and going to the moon.

Ellal 'claims' to have booked his and his family’s one-way tickets to his partners country after the referendum as well as ordering a container for their possessions. Never gave a true reason for not going, never showed any proof of those 'bookings' and never will. Just another bitter looser chucking his toys out of the pram.

What is stopping you?

He stated an intention, which I included in the numbers I quoted.
R&C also stated an intention. He wants to live near Himmy.
MBK is the only interested party, without a stated intention.

Same as what’s stopping those "expressing a particular interest" in retiring abroad. Haven’t got the balls.
You can't project your reason onto others.
They will have their own private reasons and barriers to overcome, now, post Brexit.

Your problem has not changed due to Brexit.

So we are left with those who'd like to do it, but do not have the means to do it and never did.

I'd like to own a Superyacht. Its not Brexit that stopped me.

70%+ of all 65 year olds and older living in the UK can achieve the minimum requirements.
