Im a complete newbie and I'm trying to decipher wood bleaching. I have a stained (not varnished) piece that i would like to take some of the colour out of. Its a very red stain, but pine underneath. I don't really mind what colour it ends up as long as its a bit cooler than it is now!
Will household (toilet) bleach do anything at all? Ive read up on caustic bleaches etc but its really not worth my money buying them, as its only a cheap shelf unit ($15). Sanding didn't work, i think the stain is too deep.
If so how long would you leave the bleach on for? Any other cheaper suggestions (other than painting).
