Hi I just had some windows fitted and there was a gap left at the top of each of the windows. This was covered with a strip of UPVC and i was told this sometimes happens as when the windows are measured you dont know if the original sill is sat on a bed of mortar. I was wondering if this was actually true or has the guy actually messed up the measurements??

The windows on the inside have had to have the finishing strips placed across the frame rather than the top of the wall to hide the gap. Im not impressed.

Also if the gap is over 10mm should it have been filled with foam before the strips fitted?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Nothing wrong with a gap. It should not really be more than 20mm though.

I would be more worried if the window was a tight fit.

The reason for the gap is that it allows the fitter to level off the window. As for the foam it depends but most wont use foam. It takes to long but its more used to get a good fixing rather than any insulation values.
