I have recently just spent £2500 on a new central heating boiler with wireless room thermostat.
The heating system has been acting totally erratically, switching on and off at unprogrammed times.
After some frustrating investigation and lots of very cold mornings I think this website may lead me to the answer.

Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssssss help

Is it likely that a 433MHz wireless alarm system( rubbish, according to many members, Lyntek one at that) operating at the same frequency as my Drayton digistat RF2 wireless thermostat could be sending confusing signals to the thermostat. Or just plain interfering with the smooth thermostat operation in general.

Desperate for help as we have a VERY new born baby at home now, in baltic conditions. NOT GOOD!!

What frequency does the drayton operate on?, check web site or contact them.

Definately not operating at temperature settings, set to come on at 20*C but often thermostat showing 15*C and not sending demand.

Both Drayton thermostat and alarm work on 433MHz as do most wireless alarms and thermostats it seems.

Cheers guys

I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky to get interference between these two.
Why can't you turn the alarm off for a while to see if that sorts it out, and if it does or even doesn't, you'll have the answer.

Just had a reply from Drayton...
Yes, we are aware of this problem. Unfortunatley other products that use
the same frequency will interfere with the signal. All we can suggest is
that you move the Digistat RF2 unit to another area in your household to
see if you can find a suitable area that the alarm does not light up.

If this does not help, please try to change the frequwency of your alarm
system.

We also have a troubleshooting guide that may help you:-

(See attached file: Digistat troubleshooting procedure.pdf)

I hope this helps & sorts out the problem.

If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact
me.

Kind regards.

So I guess its a wired thermostat or new alarm system. Unless I can hide the thermostat away from the interference.

Anybody out there know if there is a thermostat manufacturer out there using a different frequency!!! :?:

Honeywell CM67 or 61 operate on 868MHz.

Sounds good Gasman! will advise my installer.

Great troubleshooting document from Drayton, who I may add replied in superfast time with their help, cheers Drayton customer care.

May be useful to others but don't know how to attach files on this site, sorry!

Thanks for all the advise guys, much appreciated. :D

I am a little surprised if your "NEW" system is operating on 433 mhz.

The problem as I understand it is that the receiver was a super regenerative design with a quite a wide bandwidth based on a ceramic resonator.

I was under the impression that because 433 Mhz is within the 70 cm amateur band as well as widely used by car door lock remotes and alot of other low power devices all the later models were modified.

My understanding is that for at least two years the receivers have been superhet designs with much narrower bandwidths and operated at about 418 Mhz. At this frequency and with the new receiver interference was very rare.

Do you have an old model ???

Alarm model is about 4yr old.
Wife slightly older!!!

I have been recommended a Honeywell wireless thermostat as this operates at 868MHz and they have had no known problems of interference since manufacture.

I thought these things were coded, so that they may be in the same band, but not interfere with each other. Your car key remote isn't going to open my car, I hope!
As you say it's recently installed, it would be nice to think you could get a refund. A bit wishful, I suppose.
