Hi looking confirmation,
2 light switches in room for one centre light. Replacing switches with dimmers. One swith has cables made up from 2xred and 1 green earth and 1x red 1and green earth. Othe switch has 2x red and 1green and 1x red.

At present both earths on swithes are connected to the plastic housing via screw. Dimmers have eart connection on swicth, 3 other connections marked C L1 L2 proper wiring procedure please.

I take it both single reds are the Common but does it matter witch red goes to L1 and L2

Thanks[/img]

Also was it safe to have earth connected to just the plastic housing?
Thanks

in reverse, when plastic boxes are installed they sometimes do have a terminal for the earth wire, this is to stop the earth wire from "floating" and touching something it shouldnt.

wiring diagram., mark the cables as to which terminals they currently are connected to on each cable, then put in your new dimmers using the same connections so if you have marked a cable as L1 thenput it into L1 on the new switch.

You will of course turn the mains off first.
