Wiring Regs for Switches in Cloakrooms

Hi,

hopefully someone can help me. We are adding a sink to our separate toilet in our flat to turn it into a proper cloakroom. It currently has a conventional wall light switch in the room. Do we need to get the switch converted to a pull-cord switch? In our old house I think the switch was outside.

The sink will be a good metre from the light switch.

there are no special location regulations applying to that situation

however there is the general regulation that accessories must be suitable for thier location so the switch shouldn't be located somewhere it is likely to be splashed.

as far as im aware its ok the way it is. its only if there is a bath or shower in the room.

Unclebuck, the situation you describe is perfectly safe, a pull cord may be better, but there is nothing specifically in BS7671 to preclude you keeping the wall switch, and so long as it cannot be splashed with water there is no danger.

Just ensure that the water pipes feeding the new sink are cross bonded as per the Regs.
