Hi,
A wooden board fills the space between the bottom of my composite front door frame and the front step. The wood is approx 3 inches in height. It was only when I was thinking of re-tiling the step and measuring it that I noticed the space was wood and not brick. I have had water ingress issues inside my hall (slight efflorescence) which will not go away despite cracks in render being fixed. Going by the area where the efflorescence starts and spreads from, and now knowing that it is wood below the door frame outside and not brick, I am thinking that the water could be getting in where the step meets the wood. There appears to be white sealant/ caulk around the wood outside. My question is, should I waterproof this wood in some way then reseal after i remove the old sealant or can i cover the wood with waterproof cement or plaster? My house is a 1930's terrace with vents along bottom of house. The wooden strip below the door frame is immediately below the floor level. Thank you in advance for any advice on how I could 'weatherproof' the wood in order to work out if this is where the water is getting in.
