We have a Worcester 24 CDi. The pressure keeps going up until it reaches a maximum (3.5) and discharges through the overflow pipe. We have had boiler engineers look at the problem. They have replaced the heat exchanger twice but the pressure problem keeps reoccuring. The pressure increases if the heating is on or not. We now have problems getting hot water. The boiler is about 8-10 years old - is it time to get a new one? The water pressure in our house is quite high - is this the cause of the problem. We are worried that it would it affect a new boiler.

The simple cause is a leaking filling loop.

The next is the plate HE leaking inside.

The next and rather rare might be the diverter valve leaking inside.

You should have called Worcester for a fixed price repairat about £250.

These are pigs to work on!

It can happen if the rear seal on the hydraulic unit leaks and the front seal on the manifold lets the mains pressured water through.

It would not normally happen on a 24cdi because the pressure is more likely to escape from the joint.

Its often seen on some of the older Vokeras where they put a rubber lump in between which improves the seal to the outside.

im aware of the theory on how it can happen on boiler x.

it is impossible for that to happen on a cdi as the two sections are seperated by a spindle and two seals.

the lump of rubber in a vokera flowmatic is not there to seal the diverter to the diaphragm housing. there is a seal on each section to do that.
