worcester 24i combi boiler: Complete system drain

Hi all,

I need to rejoin two pipe segments that were originally joined by Wickes Speedfit Straight Coupler. Please explain how I could safely drain my central heating before carrying out the work - step by step guide would be much appreciated as I'm a novice and the last thing I want is a flood on our laminated floor :-(
