Recently we noticed a leak from our boiler outside from the Pressure Relief Valve outlet pipe, the part is now on order. However whilst we are waiting for this we noticed that the pressure on the boiler keeps dropping to 0.5bar and the boiler clicks off. Then whilst the heating is on the pressure goes up to 4bar and we have to release the pressure manually.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the pressure could go up and down on it's own?

Thanks

Sounds like a fault with the expansion vessel.
Do you have the Manufacturers Instructions and if so, are you able to recharge, replace ( if faulty ) the EV ?
'Playing' about with pressure could be serious and I would suggest calling an RGI to inspect / test the boiler and system.

See the FAQ on this site if you are going to try it yourself.

I will try to find time to rewrite a more comprehensive version.

Thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated.

We've done as suggested in the FAQ's no 7, fingers crossed it works now.

Thanks again :D

I had a similar problem with my Worcester 28cdi RSF and I had to have the water to water exchanger replaced. The reason I was told for the pressure going up, was that the central heating system was being topped up via the faulty exchanger internally. I released the pressure using the manual drain valve to the outside pipe in the driveway, but it would pressurise again requiring further drain down. It's just a thought, but worth looking into. Good luck!
