Boiler is 7 years old:
- new February 2004.
- new air pressure switch and control board in March 2008.
- operating normally for 3 years.
Problem 17 days 02/03/11 to 19/03/11:
- the boiler was cutting out an average of once per day with the fault indicator flashing 4 x per second.
- this could happen while using hot water or central heating.
- some days it never cut out.
- most cut outs may have corresponded with higher burner temperatures.
- in the first two days only - two cut outs occurred with the fault indicator flashing 1 x per second.
- when all cut outs occurred, an immediate restart would result in a struggling/buzzing sound on the control board when the ignition was attempting to light the gas.
- a restart after 2 minutes would get the boiler going again for another long period.
19/03/11 and 20/03/11:
- the boiler did not do any hot water or central heating at all for two days.
- a restart (or boiler switched off for hours) did not get the boiler going.
- the fan was coming on high speed immediately when boiler was switched on.
- the fan stayed on even with no DHW or CH demand.
:: - then after demand - ::
- the gas valve clicks but the ignition did not try to light the gas (no ignition sounds).
- no gas at all seems to be supplied to the burner.
- it quickly then goes to the fault indicator flashing 4 x per second.
- the fan switched from high speed to low speed.
- the fan did not switch off but stayed on low speed.
After two days of the above, I found by accident that removing and replacing fuse (f1) as in re-using the old / same fuse - this would get the boiler going again (until the next cut out about once per day again).
(f1) is the control board mains input fuse (2A).
I am sure this is not:
- a central heating pressure problem.
- blocked flue.
- faulty or congested fan.
- condensation in air tubes / faulty air tubes.
- blocked burner.
- gas valve mode switch on incorrect position.
- room thermostat problem.
What would you say is the most likely cause of this problem?
Any other advice?
Many thanks for any info..
