Does anyone know what the white link cable is next to the EMS Bus connector - the manual states it's a "On/Off thermostat input" guessing it's closed so that the heating just comes on, but don't know if the EMS bus or a controller would over-ride that or if you fit a controller should you remove it?

Thanks in advance!

Details of whether link is removed will be written in the boiler installation instructions. If it states it’s for on/off, then that’s what it will be. A lot of boilers come with a link fitted, so the heating can be turned on without controls initially, as they could be installed at a later date.

@CBW is right, if your boiler connections are as below, the link is there so that the boiler will work if the terminals aren't used for the connection of remote controls, and with some boilers it has to remain in place if external controls are connected elsewhere.

The diagram shows the "Low Voltage (Signal Cables) Terminals Strip". So, not to be connected to 230V mains.

There are also 230V connections for remote controls provided Lr on the greyed out terminals to the left.
