It did cause a few 'problems' to some users when it was first released, but most of the hicups were sorted.
One thing with releasing something as major as a Service Pack is that it is almost impossible for Microsoft to test that it will work with every permutation of different software that computers may have installed.
They can test it against each individual software but to try and mix every permutation to test would be impossible.
As you will need it for Office 2010 (you say you do) then go ahead and download and install it. Some of it will not be installed because some updates since it was released will have superceded the bits on it.
Make a full backup of all your documents first, just to be on the safe side.
