This machine gave great service until lately, when during the spin cycle of the main wash cycle G it gives a few heavy thuds even with a light load. However with no load there are no thuds.
Have removed top & back no obviuos mechanical fault.
Is it the bearing/s going? If so, were can I get service instructions.

http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17793 If you hold the outer drum casing firmly & try to move the inner drum at the door there should be no movement up or down nor side to side. If there is then you need new bearings. However your problem may not be the bearings have you checked the top stabilizing springs are in place & that the dampers are not shot. Also ensure the balance weight on the bottom of the drum assy has not come loose or broken.

thank-you.
I Have tried the drums -- no movement. Springs are ok.
I'm away from home until next week-end, on my return I will check the bottom weight and the dampers -- hope tha one of these is the problem...

These don't have a bottom weight, there is a semicircular one at the top of the back, above the pulley and a round one encircling the door seal. They rarely give trouble on these machines but it could be the front one.

Thanks for the info.
I recall the 2 weights you mention and both are intact and tightly secured. Although i'm away from home for the rest off the week.
So - i'll have a look at the dampers on my return?
I couldnt get any movement between the drums -- so dont think its the bearings -- but if it was bearings not sure if its worth the money replacing both bearing/seals ect.

It is a very old machine but you won't find anything as reliable available new these days so don't be too eager to scrap it! If it still does the washing OK you could just carry on using it until the cause of the noise becomes more obvious. You could check that the bolt securing the drum pulley is tight and check the motor is not loose on the tub.
