We're re-doing our heating system. In a new downstairs extension we have a thermostat controlling UFH running off a manifold that's separated using a motorised valve. Upstairs we have 3 zones with thermostats controlled by actuators on a second manifold. In the 2 rooms and corridor in the house we haven't torn apart we still have the legacy radiator system. All this is running off our combi boiler.

My question is about the radiator system. Should I zone that using a separate thermostat and another motorised valve? If I do that, once that valve is closed, the kitchen valve is closed and all the actuators close, there's going to be nowhere for the boiler to pump the water, so should I fit a bypass between the flow and return of the boiler to avoid straining the system?

Thanks in advance for the help.
